Today we started off in Warsaw. Walter liked the pad we had, and it was a nice place to spend the first few days in Poland. I picked up the Beast ( Peugeot 508) our ride around Poland.
Spent the early hours looking for a store that sells Arctic gear. It is that cold here now and so we won't be spending much time outside for a few days.
We set out for Lublin an easy drive to the South East. The highway is very good and Walter can't believe that while we are doing 120-130 km. hr. and we are being passed like we are standing still. It is not the autobahn but it sure felt like it. ...Nice to follow one for a few kil..
We get to our place in Lublin and we meet up with Josef Adamski, someone Dad has known for over forty years. Josef has been a volunteer for an organization that helps Polish people who happen to live East of Poland mainly Ukraine, Belorussia, Russia, Latvia and Lithuania. This guy has done so much, well more than I can imagine in his time or I feel in any lifetime. He did it all as volunteer for over thirty years!
Walter is in his book of heroes as Josef refers to it. Walter was a key person in Canada raising funds for the foundation and has sent tens of thousands of dollars to help the people who were not able or could live in Poland.
it is quite something to see the list of people who he helped and the amount of people who did help from all over the World.. He has book just to acknowledge and thank all the contributors!
Josef took us for lunch in town and tea at their place. It was nice and more with J Josef tomorrow.
After our visit with Josef and Krysia we were picked up by Karol Paprocki. He is young man who is obsessed with Military gear and history and specifically Poland's armed forces. A little obsessed is like saying Connor McDavid is a little good at hockey......
We visited him at his home outside Lublin where he has a pretty good collection. good enough to be a museum and his collection is wide ranging and a lot of it is focused on people who were in the War and related to the War or affected by the war. He also has a great collection of memorabilia like helmets, Sten gun replica, hats, and other gear. Karol has put a great deal of effort, we were happy to see this and I would say Karol was as proud or more to have Walter there and show him the work he has done. Karol has collected many signed photos of living Veterans and his collection has really grown. Very impressive. We were happy and Walter was thrilled to meet someone who is impressed by meeting someone like Walter just for the reason that he is impressed by Walter and all he has gone through and how dedicated he was. A bit of mutual admiration! It is just a passion for this cause!
It was a great visit as the pictures show, Walter may have had some throwback as he sat fondling a pistol and drinking a single malt!! Looking for the enemy...
Great visit thanks Karol!
